Yesterday I visited my naturopath for a whole slew of reasons related to EDS (Elhers-Danlos Syndrome) and inflammatory issues with digestion, asthma and allergies. I got a huge list of supplements to add to my already impressive regime and got a prescription for Low Dose Naltrexone, something I am so very excited to try.
I first learned about LDN fairly recently from a friend who also suffers from chronic pain and inflammation. We were talking about our similar anti-inflammatory diets where we avoid all food always (just kidding, I can eat most meats and vegetables and some fruits). She told me that her life was changed after starting the medication.
I was hesitant to look into it as I generally avoid pharmaceuticals. Hell, I can’t even take aspirin or ibuprofen on account of how badly it upsets my stomach but I was intrigued, nonetheless.
Naltrexone is usually used at a dose of 50mg to help people kick drugs and alcohol. Low Dose Naltrexone starts with 1mg and could go as high as 4.5mg.
The pharmacist I spoke with said that low doses stay in the system up to 6 hours and will block opioid receptors during that time, causing your body to up it’s production of endorphins, helping with pain and inflammation. Side effects could include vivid dreams.
Fuck yeah, I want vivid dreams. I used to have very vivid dreams before I stared taking CBD oil. Now I hardly ever dream, at least I don’t remember if I do. That side effect sounds pretty cool actually. Other side effects could include weight-loss, loose stool, drowsiness at night (insomniac here, thank you, I will take that too).
I picked up the prescription this afternoon and plan to take it before bed tonight. Which should probably be soon but you never really know with me. Anyhoo, I hope to report some crazy dreams in the morning and hopefully no other side effects to speak of. I am a pretty delicate flower though and so Goddamned sensitive so who knows what I might experience.
Until tomorrow, TTFN.
