Is it worse to consume alcohol or cannabis? A recent study in the United States shows that the most dangerous of the two for the brain is not necessarily the one we believe. On the other side of the Atlantic, the University of Boulder in Colorado conducted a study to determine which of the alcohol or cannabis was the most damaging to our brains? From 1298 subjects aged 14 to 35, this 30-day study found that alcohol use actually had a much more negative impact on our health than marijuana. In fact, the alcohol consumed by the participants during the test period would have affected significantly more gray matter (which contain cell bodies and synapses) and white (made of axon) of their brains than cannabis. "Although marijuana can also have negative consequences, it is far from the negative consequences of alcohol," said Professor Kent Hutchison, the author of this work. If, moreover, a study conducted this time in New Zealand showed that cannabis smoking had no long-term negative effect on our health, the University of Maryland School of Medicine concluded that smoking Cannabis every week as a teenager was likely to cause later attention disorders or schizophrenia. As Professor Hutchison recalls, these substances remain harmful to health and should be consumed occasionally and sparingly
