Semanita cargada en información para los equipos cubanos de este deporte, en lo que se destaca un premio, un torneo que se acerca y un sorteo para otro más lejano.
Good morning, afternoon or evening to all the members of the Full Deportes community. Today we are with you again to continue talking a little bit about volleyball. A week full of information for the Cuban teams of this sport, which highlights a prize, a tournament that is approaching and a draw for another more distant one.
Quizás alguien piense que jugar con tantas parejas de un país vetado de competir en cuanto circuito mundial exista o incluso de eventos multianuales como las olimpiadas, mundiales del deporte o campeonatos europeos no les viene bien a estos muchachos, pero la verdad para mi sí que lo es. Si se piensa bien, a pesar de estas prohibiciones, los atletas rusos siguen siendo de alta calidad y competitividad. En mi opinión, anclar en estos campeonatos les va a permitir adaptarse a nuevos estilos de juego y de saque, a la altura de los contrarios, y hasta del clima, que a veces puede ser una debilidad, si no estás acostumbrado a enfrentarlo.
Monetariamente, también les favorece, pues al ser invitados, no les cuesta un centavo inscribirse como si puede ser en otros circuitos y, sin embargo, tuvieron la posibilidad de ganarse su dinerito, que en sentido general fue de más de 10 mil dólares en toda la gira. Todo esto sin bajar el nivel en general y por supuesto abriendo nuevas puertas para el futuro ante el prestigio que van sembrando.
I want to start with sand, a modality in which our best couple, Noslen Diaz and Jorge Luis Alayo, became champions of the Russian Super Cup. With this result both Cubans closed their stay in these lands with the best foot, because in the Russian League a few weeks ago, despite having started very well, they could only reach the 5.⁰ place, therefore, they achieved revenge and also took a cash prize of 1 million rubles, which is equivalent to 9600 dollars approximately.
Maybe someone thinks that playing with so many pairs from a country banned from competing in any world circuit or even multi-year events such as the Olympics, World Championships or European Championships is not good for these guys, but the truth for me is that it is. If you think about it, despite these bans, Russian athletes are still of high quality and competitiveness. In my opinion, anchoring in these championships will allow them to adapt to new styles of play and serve, to the height of the opponents, and even the weather, which can sometimes be a weakness, if you are not used to face it.
Monetarily, it also favors them, because being invited, it does not cost them a penny to register as it can be in other circuits and, nevertheless, they had the possibility of earning their money, which in general was more than 10 thousand dollars in the whole tour. All this without lowering the level in general and of course opening new doors for the future with the prestige that they are sowing.
Por otro lado, mañana domingo 15 de septiembre comienza la Copa Panamericana Masculina categoría sub 23. Como mismo pasó en la rama femenina, se ausentarán varios equipos potentes del área cómo lo son Canadá y Estados Unidos y de la parte sudamericana solo intervendrá Perú, que tampoco tiene un nivel alto. Por tanto, en este caso los favoritos son los cubanos, y cualquier resultado que no siga este guión lo califico de malo para el equipo.
¿Qué espero del torneo? Pues que se limiten los errores no forzados, que jueguen todos los jugadores de la plantilla sin que este elemento merme el nivel de juego del equipo, que la química y el teamwork entre los jugadores se comience a construir, pues son el relevo de la selección mayor y prácticamente están a un pasito de jugar en la categoría máxima. También espero que sus actuaciones sirvan de trampolín a nuevas ligas europeas o asiáticas, para aquellos que aún no se contratan (si es que queda alguno todavía) o para otras de nivel superior a los que ya se encuentran envueltos en alguna.
De este torneo específico trataré de confeccionar un resumen con mis impresiones una vez termine el mismo, para destacar lo malo y lo bueno como mismo hice en el torneo femenino. Espero para ese entonces escribir relajando con la noticia de ser campeón.
On the other hand, tomorrow, Sunday, September 15, the U23 Men's Pan American Cup will begin. As in the women's category, several powerful teams from the area, such as Canada and the United States, will be absent and from the South American side, only Peru, which is not at a high level, will take part. Therefore, in this case the favorites are the Cubans, and any result that does not follow this script will be bad for the team.
What do I expect from the tournament? Well, that unforced errors are limited, that all the players of the squad play without this element affecting the level of play of the team, that the chemistry and teamwork among the players starts to build, since they are the relay of the senior team and are practically a step away from playing in the top category. I also hope that their performances will serve as a springboard to new European or Asian leagues, for those who are not yet contracted (if there are any left) or to others of a higher level for those who are already involved in one.
Of this specific tournament I will try to make a summary with my impressions once it is over, to highlight the bad and the good as I did in the women's tournament. I hope by then I will be able to write with the news of being champion.
Por último les digo, que ya están definidos los grupos del próximo Campeonato Mundial, que se celebrará en Filipinas en septiembre, pero del próximo año, en sorteo realizado hace apenas unas horas. Cuba quedó ubicado en el grupo D junto al poderoso equipo estadounidense y los más modestos Portugal y Colombia.
Tendiendo en cuenta que clasifican de manera directa a octavos de final, los dos primeros equipos de cada llave, creo que los jugadores cubanos la tienen bastante fácil para avanzar a estas instancias. A partir de ahí es que pueden comenzar los dolores de cabeza, pues el nivel sube de manera casi exponencial.
Mis expectativas están en poder ganarle a los norteamaericanos definitivamente, pues en torneos recientes hemos estado a un pasito de ganarle. También espero que los opuestos que estuvieron lesionados (Jesús Herrera y Alejandro "Ragnar" González) estén recuperados y puedan aportar con su potencia de ataque. Me imagino que un año más a nivel profesional permita otro saltico de calidad para el muy joven aún, pero ya para muchos e incluyéndome pasador titular indiscutible (si no aparece una sorpresa) Cristian Thondike, sin dejar de mirar a Julio Gómez del que además podemos contar con su potente saque en alguna que otra ocasión importante. El resto de las posiciones me parecen bien cubiertas.
Tiempo hay para ir preparando el material y los posibles planes B y C en caso de que alguna anormalidad ocurra. De momento estar muy atentos a los muchachos de la selección mayor en sus ligas, sobre todo a los que tienen nuevo rumbo en Rusia y Japón, a ver que tal les va. Aún falta mucho y antes de todo esto se celebra la Liga de Naciones.

My expectations are to be able to beat the North Americans definitively, because in recent tournaments we have been a step away from beating them. I also hope that the injured opposites (Jesus Herrera and Alejandro "Ragnar" Gonzalez) are recovered and can contribute with their attacking power. I imagine that one more year at professional level will allow another jump in quality for the very young Cristian Thondike, but already for many and including me, the undisputed starting passer (if there is no surprise), without forgetting to look at Julio Gómez, whose powerful serve we can count on in some important occasions. The rest of the positions seem to me to be well covered.
There is time to prepare the material and the possible plans B and C in case any abnormality occurs. For the time being, we will keep a close eye on the senior national team players in their leagues, especially those who have a new course in Russia and Japan, to see how they are doing. There is still a long way to go and before all of this, the Nations League will take place.
