Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing great 😁

As you can tell from the title of my post, I'm setting myself a little challenge for this new year: running a 5K.

Put like that, it might sound incredibly easy and a silly goal.

But for me, it's not insignificant! I've never been very athletic. I didn't do any sports outside of the mandatory classes at school, and I didn't enjoy it.

Five years ago, genesisledger@genesisledger and I started exercising again. We did fairly intense workouts about two or three times a week. I managed to stick with it for almost a year, maintaining a fairly regular pace. And to be honest, it really did me good. Beyond the fact that it helped me lose a little fat, I felt better in my body and more fit. And most importantly, I gained muscle.

Unfortunately, I gave up. And since then, I haven't felt like getting back into sports.

But last year, I had a little epiphany while watching the Instagram stories of a French influencer who runs. She was talking about her first marathon and how proud she was of herself. And that resonated with me; I thought: I want to run and be proud of myself too.

So, obviously, I don't want to run a marathon. But I want to start with a short race: a 5K.

So I started running again in April 2025: 2 or 3 short interval training sessions to relearn how to exercise. And it was working pretty well: I saw my progress with each session.

At first, I was always out of breath and I had trouble running for more than a minute at a time.

Then, I managed to run for 2 minutes, then 3, then 4, then 5, and even 10 or 12 minutes straight. And I was able to catch my breath much more quickly.

I was quite proud of myself. 😁

But then summer arrived, and I got lazy. And I gave up again…

And yet, I really loved running.

On Christmas Eve 2025, one of my nieces said to genesisledger@genesisledger and me, “Let’s sign up for a 5K together?”

She simply wanted to do it for the pleasure of being with us. And I thought, this is an opportunity not to be missed. I now have a running goal, so it’s time to get back into it.

So, that's it, I can officially say I've started running again since the beginning of January 2026. The 5km race is in September 2026, which gives me enough time to train and be able to run 5km continuously (about 40-45 minutes depending on my pace).

It took me a while to find a good running program, so I've been running "at random" since the beginning of January. But I've finally found a 10-week program and I'm starting it next week!

I'll regularly share my progress and development with you! 😁

In the meantime, here's a summary of my last two sessions:

Monday -> 2 minutes of walking, then 6 x 2 minutes of running / 1 minute of walking

3- course lundi.jpg

Wednesday -> 2 minutes of walking, then 6 x 2 minutes of running / 1 minutes of walking

2- course mercredi.jpg

These sessions weren't too difficult, but they still required a lot of effort. The first few cycles are fairly easy, but the last two are always more challenging.

I can't wait to start my program and see my progress! 😊

My goal here isn't to lose weight; it's really to do something rewarding and be proud of myself at the end! 👍

In short, if you ever feel like getting back into sports, don't hesitate any longer! Set yourself a goal and stick to it! You can all do it!

See you soon,
Johanna

3- course lundi.jpg

Mercredi -> 2 minutes de marche, puis 8 x 2 minutes de course / 2 minutes de marche

2- course mercredi.jpg

Johanna
