ViaBTC Will List Big Blockers’ BitcoinABC for Bitcoin Split
One of Bitcoin’s biggest mining pools, ViaBTC, has stated they will list for trading Bitcoin Cash (BCC), while allowing their users to mine the fork on a new mining pool. BitcoinABC, which largely follows the approach of Bitcoin Unlimited in increasing transaction capacity, will hardfork on August the 1st at 12:20 UTC regardless of any mining support. The new client will create its own network, with its own chain, its own nodes and its own miners. ViaBTC said:
“From 22nd July 2017 (UTC Time), ViaBTC exchange users can trade your “BTC” assets against 1:1 ratio into both “BCC” and “BTC_FROZEN2” assets. Namely, you can trade 1 “BTC” into 1 “BCC” token and 1 “BTC_FROZEN2” token, or vice versa. Deposit and withdrawal are not available for “BCC” and ”BTC_FROZEN2”.

Bitcoin's Miners Signal for Segwit2x Scaling Proposal Early
Bitcoin's miners weren't expected to start signalling for the controversial scaling proposal Segwit2x until July 21, but some are already moving to show support in advance of another round of software testing. As of today, about 43% of bitcoin's mining power is signalling for the change, including AntPool, BitClub, Bixin, BTC.com and BitFury – and other mining pools may be on the way.
While surprising, the move is likely due to a perceived need to upgrade the protocol to support SegWit before August 1 which is when BIP148's user-activated soft fork kicks in, a change that could lead bitcoin to split into two competing assets if not enough of the ecosystem supports SegWit.
$7 Million Lost in CoinDash ICO Hack
The Initial Coin Offering for CoinDash was abruptly halted yesterday when it was revealed the sale had been compromised shortly after it began. In total, the ICO was able to raise $7.53m before the Ethereum address it was using to receive ICO funds was altered to a fake one by an unidentified hacker, resulting in the Ether that was then invested going to another source. CoinDash's recent statement reads:
"Contributors that sent ETH to the fraudulent Ethereum address, which was maliciously placed on our website, and sent ETH to the CoinDash.io official address will receive their CDT tokens accordingly."
Albanian Central Bank Issues Warning to Bitcoin Investors
The central bank of Albania has published a public notice warning potential investors against buying or adopting cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. On the notice, titled ‘On the risks associated with the use of virtual currency’, the Bank of Albania addressed the growing interest in cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and revealed that no financial entities – presumably Bitcoin exchanges – were licensed to operate in the country. The official notice from the governor’s office at the central bank reads:
“The Bank of Albania has not licensed any financial entity whose activity includes also virtual currencies. Consequently, the companies involved in this activity in the Republic of Albania are not licensed, and therefore their activity is not subject to the regulatory and supervisory framework of the Bank of Albania.”
