So why did I start the road to writing to gain cryptocurrency? Well it's a somewhat long story.
So I work anywhere between 40 and 50 hours a week as a ride-share driver. I make enough to pay the bills, but not enough to retire in a week. In 2006 my grandfather passed away, and I dealt with it as any grown man would. In 2012 my grandmother passed away, and again I dealt with it.
When I say I dealt with it, I mean I kept it inside like all boys from an early age are taught to deal with feelings, which means to deal with it internally. So I kept it all inside. About a year went by and life was as it normally was, work, wake, work, wake and continued.
keep in mind that my uncle inherited the house from my grandparents. He is is good man, the kind that would give you the shirt off his back, The kind that would tell you the truth even if it mean his friendship was on the line.
So about a year after my grandmothers death we received a letter. Know when I say received it's because I live there. The house was what could be considered a 4 bedroom house with an attic and basement. So we received this letter telling us that the house was in foreclosure. Now I was just as shocked as he was, we both understood that a loan needed to be taken out, and not paid, to be in foreclosure.. This can't be. My uncle had all the bills squared away and no loans in his name. So we chalked it up to a scam.
Next month, another letter, same title. This one we decided to open since it was addressed to my grandfather. When we did, shock followed. The house was being foreclosed on. How can that be? Upon reading the letter, we discovered that Chase bank had given my grandparents a loan for 20K. And the loan was paid up until the day of my grandmothers death. After a year of no payments (since both my grandparents were deceased) they decided to foreclose.
This is one of those moments that people say "this sucks".
So my uncle, being the upstanding person he is,calls Chase. He has a conversation with theme, finds out all the details and explains that he was unaware of "line of credit", but was aware of a credit card dept, which he sent all the necessary paperwork for. They explain to him that "that's another department" and that if he wanted to keep the house he had to Take Over The Loan.
My uncle considered his options. Chase was owed the money, and being the honest person he is, he said he would pay them what was owed. So at that time the amount, on paper, was $15,000.. However, after talking to them for 5 minutes and arguing to pay this loan, the amount jumped to $20,500.
How can that be you ask? Well simply because they added a "Get out of foreclosure" fee to the bills... Yes, you read that right. They put the house in foreclosure, and when my uncle wanted to pay it, they tacked on a fee because they put the house in foreclosure... You are damned when you do and damned when you don't.
So my uncle not wanting to be taken advantage of said "No". And too make things worse, he spoke with some of his co-workers and they informed him "Since you didn't take the loan, and your name is not on it, they can't take the house". Worst advice he could ever get.
I need to add that my uncle over the course of this all happen, even to this day, said he would pay them what they were owed, but he refused to pay the "foreclosure" fee. Since he knew nothing about this loan, but was willing to pay it, he didn't believe it was right that the bank could take advantage of the situation for another $5,500. He has had countless conversations with them, and at one point when they called, he said "I'm going to record this call so that I can listen to it later if I think I misunderstood something". The reality is he wanted to record it so he could research the legal terms they were speaking in. The representative he was speaking to told him "if you record this I can't talk to you" then hung up. He even offered to sign over his Social Security payments (tuned 65 this year) as proof that the payments would be made. They denied this request.
So today I received a call from him telling me that I have to come get anything I want from the house, because it is going to a Sheriff Auction Sale on the 11th. I feel guilty because it's my family home and I could have done more, I should have done more. I feel like a POS because I set up a go fund me, and I never did anything with it. I could have helped, but I didn't because I was embarrassed. Now my uncle, who would have done anything for anyone, is losing the house.
I started this streaming thing to make extra money to help family members, and I failed. A bank, who cares less about the people that go to it, is taking a home that he offered to pay for, for a profit, When the money owed was offered to be paid. A home that's been in my family since the 1950's is gone over $60,000 (Keep in mind the balance on what was owered was $15k at the start of all this).. When in reality the property alone is worth over $100,000.
So yea, I'm in a bad mood. I'm drinking and Wallowing in self pity...
You wanted an inside look at my life, here you go, it's not pretty.
(Edit 4/8/19 9:56am: I was a very intoxicated when I wrote this last night. I'm not removing it, I am a bit embarrassed I woke up to realizing I even wrote it, but I decided to leave it up. I did however have to edit it due to some misspellings and some info that should have been added for real context.)
