Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for sunday, the 28th day of July, 2024. Happy Sunday everyone. The Olympic Women's Tournament continues today with motherland Nigeria who played against Spain in Group C. The Spaniards defeated the Nigerians by a lone goal (1-0). Still in the same group, Japan defeated their opponent Brazil by (2-1).
The biggest scoreline of the day came from Group B where Australia hammered Zambia by (6-5).
Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from the events of the WWI. He finds out that on this day in 1914, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, using the killing of Austrian archduke Francis Ferdinand as a justification for imposing an unacceptable ultimatum, sparking World War I.
From the events of WWI, Larry goes to the world of cycling. He finds out that on this day in 1991, Spanish cyclist Miguel Indurain won his first of five consecutive Tour de France titles.
From the world of cycling, Larry goes to China. He finds out that on this day in 1976, more than 240,000 people were murdered in an earthquake in China's industrial metropolis of Tangshan.
From China, Larry goes to Peru. He finds out that on this day in 1821, Peru declared her independence from Spain.
From Peru, Larry goes to Venezuela. He finds out that on this day in 1954, Hugo Chávez, a Venezuelan politician who served as President of Venezuela from 1999 until 2013 was born in Sabaneta, Barinas, Venezuela.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from England. He finds out that on this day in 1540, King Henry VIII of England married his fifth wife, Catherine Howard, in private.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
