I Think I Found A Serious Steem Wallet Bug...
I was just doing my usual steemit browsing today on the eve of Black Friday, when my mother, who happens to be a steemer as well, shouted for me from across the room. She was staring at her computer screen, eyes wide like saucers.
My mother is a fairly established Steemer, but it was still more than surprising to see that her estimated account value in her wallet had risen to over 100 BILLION USD.
Yes, 100 Billion.
So, I decided to check my own steemit account to see of I had by chance become a 5 minute billionaire.
This is what I saw (focus on my estimated account value):
Everything looks right, except for my estimated account value which somehow reached 6 Billion USD. I would love to believe that I just acquired billions of US dollars despite my inactivity (sorry) on Steemit, but it seemed a bit strange. I frantically refreshed my page, but the number remained. I used my phone to view my mothers' wallet, and her number was still the same. I googled the current price of steem, thinking maybe someone suddenly bought a crapton, but at the time of writing, steem is only 38 cents USD.
I'm no mathematician, but something was not adding up.
Have I suddenly become a billionaire, even though the price of Steem is the same its always been?
Unfortunately, I don't think that's the case. I suspect this is a bug within Steemit. I cannot say for sure when it first occurred, as I only saw it today.
I don't know how or why this is happening to my account, or others', but if you do, please comment below.
And I ask all of you who read this to check your Steemit wallets from your profile to see if your estimated account value has skyrocketed as well!
