Yesterday, my friend and I went on a food tour at Gulshan-1 to eat at a restaurant which also happens to be the talk of the town, Yum Cha District.
Before I begin, I must address 2 key elements. First, I forgot to take picture of đ. Therefore, I must resort to taking the pic from their social media page. Second, there were way too many people present at the time. Even the waiting line was full, so, taking a picture then wouldâve meant breaching their privacyđ.
This was a sudden plan made by me. I have been eyeing this restaurant for quite some time and needed a friend to go along with me. Fortunately, at 1:30 pm a friend was headed for that location and asked me if I wanted to do anything. I spurred up and suggested to try out this restaurant. He agreed and hence the plan was in motion. The only condition to this, I was to head out at 3:20 pm.
I got ready and had a lot of time to kill. So, I played Overwatch 2 on my ps4 until the time arrived, my stomach eagerly waiting for some food. I finally got the call from him at 3:12 pm and quickly ordered an Uber. I reached there by 3:44 pm. I didnât realise that he had texted me about an important aspect. Turns out, we had to wait until a table was empty and were the very next customers. Fact of the matter was, when he arrived the waiter asked him to wait for 20 minutes until a seat was free of customer. Unlucky for him, he had been waiting for the last 10 minutes and unlucky for me, we had to wait for another 10 minutes.
We chatted a bit, about how life turned out for us. He got into Computers and I into machines. And we didnât realise how quick time passed by. We were called to our precious seat.
We were offered a welcome drink in this ink-black cup. A ginger tea with a drizzle of honey that made the tea brim with sweet and sour aftertaste. The best part, it was free and on the house!
While I was sipping this piping hot delight, my friend was skimming through the menu, looking for anything thatâs both good for eating and light on the wallet.
He didnât like the tea so he gave me his one me. It wasnât giving out steam anymore but it was good nonetheless. He asked me to suggest a dish for him. I started to scan as well.
The menu was attractive. The momos looked good, the price not so much. And, itâs would satiate the afternoon hunger. Therefore, I looked over to the fried rice section. The best one to catch my eye was the their YCD Special Fried Rice. This had a mixture of crab, squid ring, chicken, beef, and best of all the naga rice. The spice level was two spice symbols, hotter than the average one I assumed.
The fellow waiter asked if we were sure about it. I said, âYes, make it extra hotter!â My friend got the same thing except he got the usual spicy level that was showed on the menu.
About 30 minutes later, they show up with this spicy treat. A perfect egg to top it off and on top of it was spring onions.
His egg yolk was broken đ, and the spring onions were drenched with the yolk.
For a guy who eats slowly, I ate pretty fast. Itâs the nagaâs doing. The hot chilli made me eat quickly as to not get the heat on the tongue further. After every few spoonfuls I had to sip a little water.
The best thing about this dish was that the rice, the dices of the seafood, beef, and chicken were all in good quantity and fresh.
Iâm also kept the egg intact. Iâm the sort of person who loves to save the best for last. Waited for the perfect mouthful of the golden river to end the meal.
On the top you can see that my friendâs plate was full. His tongueâs state was bad, he started lolling and was about to run out of water until I suggested a good countermeasure.
This was it. The chilli sauce. It was a bit sweet, and that helped cut the spiciness off the rice. I tried it with the squid rings, tasted good really. Something I didnât expect.
We didnât dare touch the chilli mixture there.
And finally, when I had finished I saw him slowly finish his while I had ordered another cup of tea. I had 3 cups and didnât regret it.
The bill was about $10 but this time it was worth it.
Finally, a good restaurant that served good food according to their review. We finish our meal by 5 pm and reached home by 6 pm. It didnât pour that day, thankfully, for which the ride back home was less chaotic.
