I once heard that a square root of all the workers at a company produce half of the value. In other words, if you have a company with 100 workers, 10 of them will create 50% of the value for the company, and the other 90 will be responsible for the other 50%. Whenever I hear the word "Teamwork", I always run as fast as I can in the other direction. It's the same story every time, one person or a small group of people work their butts off, and the other people don't do anything. Teamwork and team projects always lose sight of the individual. Some of these individuals produce amazing value and receive no recognition for their contributions, and some individuals literally fall asleep in the corner, should be fired, and no one notices.

I've always been the creator, the leader and the hard worker, but this is seldom noticed in a place where politics and favorites matter more than actual performance. It used to drive me crazy back in my college days, that I would have my grade depend on a bunch of lazy idiots that only wanted to get drunk and party. Grading group projects always seemed silly to me. What do you think about this? I thought things would get better in the workplace, but it almost always seems like some relative of a manager gets to skate free and do absolutely no work and get rewarded. Are group projects a good thing, or do they only serve as a way to get lost in an endless pile of papers?
