Today I made a dish that I really loved: a salad with pork chops and French fries. My plan from now on is to change my diet a little—it’s not easy, since the healthiest foods in my country are pretty expensive—but I want to start eating more salads instead of rice or pasta. Honestly, I’m sick of those two things. Every day for lunch we eat pasta or rice—ALWAYS—and I just can’t take it anymore. I also want to cut out refined flour products; it’ll be a pretty difficult process since I’ll have to find replacements for all those things that are basically what any Venezuelan would have at home. And well, today I bought a pork chop—something completely different from what I usually eat… Pork chops sometimes seem pretty expensive to me for how long they last, but I feel like they’re totally worth it since they’re delicious.
Proceso/Process
It's always important to wash the pork thoroughly. I let it soak in vinegar for about 10 minutes and then add water; I do this twice to make sure it's really clean. Then I start seasoning it—in my case, I used salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic sauce.
In a preheated pan, I placed the pork chops. I didn't add any oil since the chops release their own fat. What surprised me this time was that the chops didn't shrink. They usually shrink quite a bit, but these didn't. Anyway… I let them cook until they were nice and browned, and in the meantime, I prepared some French fries and a salad of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and lemon. It had been many years since I'd eaten cucumber, and I liked it a lot. I remember not liking cucumber that much before, haha. I sliced it along with the tomato, and I let the lettuce marinate in vinegar for about 10 minutes.
Finally, I chopped the lettuce into fairly small pieces and added it to the tomato and cucumber along with a squeeze of lemon juice and, of course, a pinch of salt. I stirred it and served the food on my plate.
This dish is delicious, it would be very tasty even without fries. Lettuce is something I don't usually eat much and I like that when I try it I can quickly get used to the taste, especially with lemon, I'm a fan of citrus flavors.
