A Playful Story in 5 (Body) Parts šŸ™€

Moving to a town named Salem led us to think that we’d see lots of trick-or-treaters. As it turned out, we didn’t, but not for a lack of hoping!

Every year, we find it fun to have at the ready a mask or hat, some candy and a simple decoration to say, ā€œWe’re open for tricks or treats!ā€ šŸŽƒ

Here’s bitterirony@bitterirony playing Cat In The Hat whilst twiddling his long feline whisker.

We did get two young trick-or-treaters come see us, the 2 year old girl and 4 year old boy of our landlord and landlady. The little ones wore Paw Patrol costumes. So cute!!

I was thrilled that their candy caddyšŸ¬ Jack-o-Lanterns were completely empty. That meant we were their first stop!! Hehehe. 🄰

Bitter had special ordered gummie candy for the occasion, similar to Hariboā„¢ļø. But, these were special edition for Halloween. šŸ‘» They were not bears or worms. No, these were body parts!!!

That’s right! If you’d come by our place, you too could’ve filled your pumpkin with 5 types of body parts!

• Brains
• Eye balls
• Ears
• Finger tips
• Severed feet

Our minimal decorations were a simple black resin Jack-o-Lantern with a pumpkin-colored interior and an LED light. I popped in 3 AA Batteries to bring it to life.

To attach it to the marble plinth near the front door, I got some museum putty and stuck a few put squares on the bottom of the pumpkin and pressed it on the top of the clean marble surface.

At the Container Store where a bought the black pumpkin , I found a wire-framed paper rope witch hat. To attach it, I pulled aside some of the rope and stuck the putty to the wire circumference at the underside of the hat brim.

We included Wilbur, our concrete yard figure fashioned after the film version of the book Charlotte’s Web, into the decorative approach to our front door by tying a single bow at his neck and a smoked glass LED candle at his feet. The autumn leaves added to the vignette, so Bitter didn’t sweep them away.

After our pair of trick-or-treaters went on to their next neighbourhood to add to their candy collection, Bitter and I set out on our evening walk.

The water of Captain’s Pond was so still that it mirrored the cirrus clouds above. How lucky we are to have such a gorgeous body of water to enjoy along our route each night.

If you’ve not seen bitterirony@bitterirony’s streak of actifit@actifit posts that are built on the images we capture each night, then you are in for a (trick-or) treat. Sorry, couldn’t resist! 😜

Heres Bitter’s version of events about who really was our first visitor on All Hallow’s Eve. Are you ready? Could be scary. 🫣
