These photos were taken last Wednesday when I walked to Blang Kulam's twin waterfalls.
I noticed a wide range of fascinating insects there, with Odonata being the most abundant. One of them is the stream glory, a type of Odonata insect with distinctive habits due to the fact that they can only be found in stony streams and nowhere else.
The stream glory is one of many damselflies belonging to the family Calopterygidae. Neurobasis chinensis is the species you see here, and it's a male with a metallic green hue all over its body. Its wings are dark copper brown in color, yet they flash a sparkling turquoise blue as it flaps them.
When compared to most damselfly species in the Zygoptera suborder, this is the biggest damselfly species I've noticed. And, in my opinion, the stream glory is the most beautiful.
