Linz, where I'm staying, is an interesting middle size city in Austria with a population of 200K. There is a unique creative culture and atmosphere.

The city is well known for a media art festival ARS Electronica Festival, which has taken place since 1979. People in universities and museums are well connected. I cannot describe it well but all of these make Linz a unique creative city.

Last weekend, to see an art supply shop, I went to see Tabkfabrik (former tobacco factory), where ARS Electronica Festival took place in 2010. Back then, it was not abandoned but was a big vacant space. ARS Electronica Festival could occupy the buildings.

After 13 years, remodeling is going on. It seems a hotel and office spaces have been built next to it.

And then I was happy to see the scenery still I remembered 🥳 Yes, this is the Tobacco Factory where I exhibited my work!

image.png

As it was Saturday, it was quite silent inside the buildings.

Interesting companies and organizations have their office in the building. It might be nice to have my office here (my dream for the future!).

I took a look at a huge art supply store to get inspired.

It might be common in Europe that cities have a former factory area. The German city I lived in Black Forest, had a tobacco factory and Leipzig, where I live in Germany, has a former cotton mill. These places are now remodeled for office and art spaces.

If you visit or start living in a city in Europe and expect a creative encounter, I recommend you to find this kind of former factory space.

It was my 2nd Wednesday Walk in Linz.

Since I'm now on my way back to my artist career in Linz, sometimes worries such as "Is it the right direction in my life?" "Can I be financially sustainable?" come up in my mind. I accept these worries that they are there inside myself. And then I go out for a walk. I think I learned this trick from one of the TED talks I recently listened to. When I walk around, creative ideas pop up in my brain and bring me back to a good mood. I realize walking has a great influence on both our mental and physical health.

In the end of this post , I share a photo of a poster I found in the art university building.

image.png

image.png

image.png

image.png

image.png
