It's already August. Fresh days still continue in Germany. Plants are not super productive, but they don't seem unhappy with the weather. In fact, some of them even enjoy the lower temperature.
The highlight of the week is ... tomatoes! They are finally ripe 🍅 And more of them follow.
If you are a tomato fan, I think you like this. It's my daughter and my recent favorite good mood song. "T-O-M-A-T-O. In my garden that’s all I’ll grow ~ ♪" 🍅
Summer strawberries are slowly but steadily bearing fruits.
I enjoy combining them with black berries we picked from the neighborhood, banana, Skyr yogurt, and soy milk for smoothies. No sugar needed 😉 And look at the color!
Speaking of strawberries, some baby strawberry plants moved from my balcony to the community garden this week. I wish they settle well and produce a lot of strawberries next year.
Last week I wrote that I was failing to make seedlings for autumn/winter since I used my homemade compost, which was not mature enough. Thanks to the soil I bought, new seedlings are doing good, and some of the old ones have survived. I'm grad to see they are growing well.
For the seedlings, I'm battling with caterpillars 🐛 I like the "Half for insects and birds, and half for human" policy but they are so hungry that they eat up whole a young plant over a night ... ! So I kindly ask them to move to another place.
I was excited to find a function on my camera that lets me take this kind of close up detailed photo 😊
My micro balcony is now full of seedlings. So I made a space in our small storage room. Since it's not a super sunny space, it will only be used until the seeds germinate. Let's see how it works. Gardening is about learning by doing 💪

もう8月です。ドイツでは、雨の日は少し減ったものの、肌寒い雨降りの日々が続いています。
植物は超生産的というわけではありませんが、最近のお天気は悪くないようです。コミュニティーガーデンの芽キャベツなどは「やっほーい！」って感じで育っています。うれしそうです w
今週のハイライトはトマトです！ついに熟しました 🍅 これからどんどん続くかな、子供が来週帰ってきたら喜んでくれそうです。
トマトといえば、以前お尻が黒くなって、がっかりした大玉さんたちも、涼しくなってからは雨が植物に直にあたっても調子がよさそうです。暑すぎたのかな？？今度は植物の方の葉っぱが元気がないのが気になりますが、見守ります。
逸れました。うちのバルコニーで、トマトとともにがんばっているのが夏になるいちごです。春のようにどっさりとれたりはしないのですが毎日ちょぼちょぼ実をつけては私や子供のおやつになっています。
近所の茂みでとってきたブラックベリー、バナナ、ヨーグルト、豆乳と一緒にスムージーにしています。はちみつなど甘みを足さなくても十分甘くて酸っぱくておいしいです。そしてこの色！元気が出ます。
そんないちごの子供たちがぽっとでしっかり根を張り始めたので、いくつかコミュニティーガーデンにお嫁に出しました。このなんというか、増やしてお裾分けできる感、ガーデニングのすきなところです。まだまだあるので、コミュニティーガーデンやお友達のお庭に持って行こうと思っています。
先週、自家製の未成熟なコンポストを使ってしまい、苗を作るのに失敗したと書きました。購入した土のおかげで、新しい苗は順調に育っています。さらに古いものもいくつか生き残りました。苗づくりのスタートは例年通りのタイミングになってしまい、もしかしてちょっと遅いかもしれませんが、いずれにせよよかったよかった。
苗といえばここ数日芋虫と闘っています 🐛 「虫と鳥のために半分、人間のために半分」という考え方が好きですが、芋虫はとてもお腹が空いていて、一晩でぺろっと小さい植物を食べてしまいます。ごめんよと思いながら他の場所に移動してもらいます。
カメラにクローズアップの写真を撮る機能があることを発見したのもうれしかったです 😊
うちのミニバルコニーは今、苗でいっぱいです。なので物置に小さな収納室にスペースを作りました。そこまで光の入るスペースではないので、発芽するまでかな。なんでも挑戦。試してみます。
