Knitting socks inspired by nature / 自然をモチーフにした靴下

I have mostly been knitting socks in gradients, but recently I felt like knitting socks with motifs and solid-colored yarn, so I ordered a sock knitting book titled "52 Weeks of Socks" and a ball of yarn.

As I was flipping through the pages, wondering what to knit first, my eyes landed on a pattern called "Imker" (Beekeeper). It's a sock pattern inspired by the honeycombs made by bees. I love gardening and honey, so it was my choice.

Bees are cute, aren't they? I especially love the chubby ones called Bumblebees in Germany. It's hard not to smile when I see them weighing down the plants.

The yarn and needles I had seemed to make the socks too wide if I followed the pattern exactly, so I decided to knit a simpler sock, just incorporating the main honeycomb structure.

As I knitted, I started to fantasize, "Leaf patterns would be cute too. What if I created a series of socks and NFTs based on natural motifs?" (I've wanted to do something with socks and NFT when Uniswap launched Unisocks NFT in the DeFi Summer of 2020. I thought it would be great if socks knitted by grandmothers all over the world could be turned into NFTs and become a source of pocket money for them.)

Maybe I could take a year or two, like my Soup Stories on Hive Blog, to gradually create and collect patterns and socks, and then launch a series of nature-themed socks and NFTs. Wait, should I turn soup into NFTs too??

After brainstorming with ChatGPT, I wrote down about 30 motif ideas. Surprisingly, many ideas came to mind.

Honeycomb
Leaves (variations for each season)
Waves (calm waves, rough seas)
Clouds
Flowers
Droplets
Snow
...

Although my ideas are still not fully formed, I will continue to develop them while knitting my honeycomb socks. It's snowy days here in Germany, a perfect time to enjoy indoor knitting ⛄️

これまでほとんどの靴下をグラデーションで編んでいたのですが、単色の毛糸で模様編みをしたくなり、靴下の模様編みの本と単色の毛糸を注文しました。

日本のAmazonで調べてみると、日本語版がありました・・・・・いいお値段、3630円也。私がった英語版は20ユーロ弱で、でも今のユーロ円レートではそのくらいなのか。。

何から編んでみようかなと考えて、ぱらぱらページをめくっていると「Imker」（養蜂家）というパターンが目に止まりました。蜂の作るハニカムをモチーフにした靴下です。ガーデニングの友の蜂も、食卓の友の蜂蜜も大好きなのでこれに決定。

蜂、種類にもよりますが、かわいいですよね。私はドイツでBumblebeeと呼ばれている太っちょの蜂が大好きです。重すぎて植物がしなっているのを見るとニヤッとせずにはいられません。

私の手持ちの毛糸と編み針だと、パターンそのままで作ると幅が広くなりすぎそうだったので、メインのハニカム構造だけ取り入れたシンプルな靴下を編むことにしました。

黙々と編み進めながら、「葉っぱ模様で編んでもかわいいだろうな。そうだ、自然をモチーフにした靴下とNFTのシリーズを作ったらおもしろいんじゃないか」とわけのわからない妄想が始まりました。
（靴下とNFTについては、2020年のDeFiサマーのときにUniswapがUnisocksという靴下NFTを作ったのを見て、私もなにかやりたかったんですよね。当時はおばあちゃんたちが編んだ靴下をNFTにして、おばあちゃんたちのお小遣いになったらいいのになんて考えていました。）

Soup Storiesのような感じで1年くらい時間をかけて、少しずつパターンを作り貯めていって、自然をモチーフにした靴下とNFTシリーズを作っていくのもおもしろいかもしれません。あれ、スープもNFTにしたらいいのかも？？

どんなモチーフが考えられるか、ChatGPTとブレインストーミングをしてモチーフの案を30個ほど書き出してみました。意外にもたくさん出てきます。
