Creativity - The Values That Shape My Family / 我が家の価値観、クリエイティビティ

Earlier this year, I took coaching sessions and learned that people’s values differ greatly depending on the family environment they grew up in. It sounds obvious, but I had never really thought about it deeply before.

I grew up in a family that prioritized academic background and social status, while my partner grew up in a family that valued helping others and being kind to people, nature, and animals. As we raise our daughter together, I started wondering what we ourselves value. We want her to learn basic things, but study is not the most important thing, kindness probably matters more to us.

Recently, I realized that both my partner and I value creativity. I’ve always loved making things since I was little, and the two of us became close partly because we were both interested in entrepreneurship. Last night, while looking at our living room—which has basically turned into a messy kid's art studio (the photo is the tidied up version 😌) — it hit me that if I had to sum up what our family values in one word, it would be creativity.

I love my creative family, which is probably a bit unique. What kind of family we’ll become, and how our daughter will grow up, is still a mystery but I’m sure it will all turn out fine and nicely funny one.

今年の前半にコーチングを受けていて、人の価値観ってその人が育った家庭環境によって大きく違うと知りました。当たり前のように聞こえますが、これまでそんなに考えたことがありませんでした。

私は学歴や社会的地位を重視する家で育って、相方は人を助けることや人や環境・動物に優しくすることを重視する家で育ちました。そんな我々が子供を育てていて、何を大事にしているんだろうと考えると、勉強は最低限できてほしいけれど、そこまで大事ではなくて、でも優しさかなあという感じでした。

最近気づいたのは、私も相方もクリエイティビティを大事にしていることです。私自身小さい頃から何かを作るのが大好きで、相方とはお互い起業に興味を持っていることから親しくなりました。昨晩散らかり放題の子供のアトリエと化したリビングルームを見て、一言で言うなら我が家は「クリエイティビティだ！」という結論に至りました。

私はそんな多分結構ユニークな我が家をなかなか気に入っています。どんな家族になるのか、子供はどんなふうに育つのかはまだまだ謎ですが、なんとかなることでしょう。
