I was knitting a pair of socks; one with top-down (ankle to toe) and another one with bottom-up method (toe to angle) to see which method I like more. I finished the pair yesterday and I'm happy to share the result 😊

Outlook

Both look quite the same. I cannot see the difference instantly. When I see the ribs and the toes thoroughly I can distinguish them (left: topdown / right: bottom up). The toe of the bottom up sock is a bit smoother.

Ease of knitting

For me, the top down knitting method was a bit easier than the bottom up method as I could avoid the complicated invisible ribbed bind off. It can be an option to bind off in an easy going way but I like the stretch and the outlook of the invisible ribbed bind off.

Comfort of the socks

Comfort is an important aspect. As I wrote that the toe of the bottom up sock looks smoother, I notice some chunk of yarn in the toe of top down socks. It's not uncomfortable but I prefer bottom up socks. I wonder I closed the toe in a wrong way. I closed the toe with kitchener stitch 🤔

Conclusion

After I tried both methods and compared the comfort of the socks, I think I'm more fan of the bottom up method even I may struggle with the complicated rib binding off.

Regularly I stop knitting around this season of the year until next autumn. Ja but I couldn't help start knitting another pari as I have a nice yarn next to me ... It's Schoppel sock yarn with biodegradable polyamide (usually sock yarns contain 20-25% of synthetic fiber to make them durable).

I started knitting this pair with the bottom up method 😉

Happy Needlework Monday to all!
