Bouncing Back from a Down Day - "Essentialism" In Action / 『
Today, I went to see the weekly market and decided to take some time to reflect in a café.
I recently came across a book titled "Essentialism" on Twitter, and since I am a fan of its translator, Riko Takahashi (I became a fan through her translation of "Blockchain Revolution"), I immediately bought it and started reading. This book underscores the importance of focusing on what's important and courageously letting go of the rest.
It also discusses the importance of writing down things you feel you need to do, to clarify the priority. So, I decided to write down my thoughts in a notebook to sort out my mind.
At the café, I noticed an old man in front of me who kept smiling happily. I messaged my partner about him as he was visiting an old people home for his project. I received a reply that my tax claim had been rejected by the tax office. The amount was several thousand Euros higher than my tax accountant's estimate. It quickly dampened my mood ...........
However, I couldn't let this stop me from savoring the warm focaccia in front of me. I applied the focused concentration I learned from "Essentialism" (joke!), and relished the crispy surface, the warmth, and the combination of salty tomato and mild mozzarella cheese. I quietly appreciated that there are good things like this focaccia in the world. I managed to lift my spirits a bit from rock bottom. Yes, I like food and it's my focus in my life.
The time and energy I have in my life are limited. It's pointless to get angry about a rejected claim. I'll just pay it, forget about it, and focus on earning more from nice jobs and enjoying delicious food 💪
"Essentialism" could be seen as a logical version of "The Law of Attraction". Both books talk about determining what is most important to oneself, focusing on it, visualizing it clearly, and aligning with the ideal state. I love both books.
Today was a bit of a downer, a bitter day but tomorrow is a new day. Books and delicious food really help us. I'm glad that I learned reading and learning from books.
