In the dorm lounge, loud voices turned quiet as the evening fell into night, eyes darkening with the sky

In bed, clutching a dysfunctional comforter and shaking, mattress dissipating into earthquakes

In a circle in a friend’s room, reading numbers from our phones, doing math until our calculators go numb.

In the closet

In a panic

In an instant

the Earth bled, bled, bled and the rage keeps spreading-

They called it at 1:34 am central standard time.

I claw at golden lapels and scream

“How many will arise to bloody sunrises wrists and marys;

How many will not arise?”

I shiver to think of the morning’s playgrounds, empty and colorless

I shiver to face the bloody sun

“Lost.”
