There's pretty interesting street art in Maracay, I used to visit this city a lot back in 2010-2013 since it was close the city I was living in that time (Valencia), 1 hour by bus. So one day in 2015 I went back to visit and take some shots of some of the street art in there, I'll show you my pics and also I'll introduce you to one of the street artist whose artwork I shot that day.
“People say graffiti is ugly, irresponsible and childish... but that's only if it's done properly.”
― Banksy, Wall and Piece
Well, I think the artwork in the picture above is more than just a graffiti but I don't think I have a broad knowledge of this subject. I'm not a fan of street art but I do enjoy seeing and watching street art wherever I go, and love it when Lora Zombie or Banksy make a mural.
According to Wikipedia, street art "is associated with the terms 'independent art', 'post-graffiti', 'neo-graffiti', and 'guerrilla art'" that "is intended to make a personal statement about the society that the artist lives within"(guerrilla art), and that 'Some artists may use "smart vandalism" as a way to raise awareness of social and political issues'. And I think this is why some people like street art so much, sometimes it is a wake up call, right?
This was my first shot on Street Art in Maracay (previously posted in here) in 2011 on the Constitución Avenue, I was in a taxi going to the terminal to take a bus to leave the city and go to my hometown, and this image really got my attention because it made me feel something. I think that's one feature real work of arts should have, that they make you feel something, don't they?
Well, I remember I went to Maracay again on that day of 2015 to shoot especificly this building because there were some of the creations of the street artist STEEP whose art I find pretty interesting and captivating.
This is an internationally recognized urban artist based in Ecuador that made many murals like this in Maracay. STEEP has migrated to cities in his native country Ecuador, Peru and Argentina to participate in different international events, where he has met other artists from different places. This time I only shooted this one; Unfortunately, I couldn't visit the rest of his murals.
What I liked the most about his artworks besides how technical and neat they are, it's that creativity explosion that gives you a visual message on earth nature and latinamerican roots, and even how peaceful life can be.
Right next to that big painting there was this big bird which I really liked.
After taking a few shots, I continued with my visit through the city, this is the "Plaza Parque Bicentenario".
A pretty nice and big plaza to spend sunday afternoon.
And I found some other nice street art, this was located at one of the main avenues of the city, it was really big so it got my attention instantly.
It was really a nice day and visit to this nice and hot city, I remember the heat was pretty intense (as usually in here) but that didn't stop me from enjoying the views. What do you think about these shots and about Street Art itself? Did one of these make you feel something?
Thanks for watching and reading till here!
Greetings! :)
