The coffee plunger, alternatively known as the French press/cafetière à piston has 3 functions (possibly even more with new innovation)

  • Brewing & Filtering coffee grounds from the infused water.
  • Milk frothing & texturing
  • Brewing of loose tea.

Brewing of loose tea
The french press can effectively replace a tea infuser, but there are a couple of cons to it.

  • This is only suitable for lighter teas that do not require a long brew time.

  • Loose tea happens to be very fine, thus brewing for too long may result in a bitter tasting tea.

  • The french press is capable of pumping air into milk, this results in the milk doubling in volume.

  • The rubber at the bottom of the glassware will allow you to tap the milk. Tapping is the process of popping large air bubbles to ensure for a smooth textured milk. This is done by knocking the milk on a counter/ surface. 2
