When I was 41 I had emergency surgery. I was quite ill and I remember my thoughts as I was taken to the operating room...my kids. What's going to happen to my kids. First thing I did when I got out of the hospital was buy life insurance. I don't have a policy anymore.
Time is the most precious, I agree. But we can't help worrying about our kids' well-being. My youngest child is 50. My other child is 52. Whatever they inherit will be outright, because they should know how to handle money by now.
I always think I have my affairs in order and then something changes and I worry. But at some point I have let it all go. I have to recognize that I can't control what happens, now or after I'm gone.
These day, I'm more conservative in giving advice. What do I know??? Unless someone insists on hearing my opinion, I just don't give it anymore.
