I remember my mother-in-law asking me all kinds of questions about a life insurance policy a few years before she passed. I worked in the insurance industry but wasn't at all knowledgable about life insurance. I don't think she ever went through with it. It's interesting when we start thinking about the legacy we can leave our loved ones. We imagine all the things that might make their lives easier or possibly make them remember us. The older I get, the more I realize spending time with them is the most important thing...making as many memories as possible. Over the next few years, we'll be getting our affairs in order and maybe setting up some trusts for certain relatives. It won't be much but regular monthly payments seem better than giving lump sums.
