In a country where democracy is practiced, people are left with choices of voting for who they want either he or she is a wrong candidate or not but as long as they are willing to cast their votes for them, then it is right and legal under the law to be so. But in a case where citizens refuse to get their voting cards, let alone casting their votes on election days, should it be termed as a punishable criminal act under the law of the country as an abiding citizen of the country? This is what we will be checking out in my blog today so let's dive in.
So many times, wrong people have been indirectly placed in political positions, where resources are misused and mishandled, and citizens keep suffering with their voices falling on the deaf ears of the so-called leader. These happens because we leave our duties as humans, hoping and praying hard that God does it for us and with these ignorance,we are been ripped off of our comforts and right to enjoy leadership of our country. We politically shut ourselves out of the systems with the mindset and orientation that our "our votes do not count" and that we are not concerned about their electoral process.
We literally leave out all our duties as citizens and expect the right person as a leader to jump on the throne of leadership without our votes while we sit at home to criticize and complain or rather take campaign incentives.
With all of these that I have burst out to be our bad habits as citizens and partakers of bad governance initiation, how on earth is not a criminal act and offense that should be punishable and death with? A bidding should just be approved that any citizen whose record is found as a citizen of that country, who fails to vote or partake in any political electoral activities should be arrested and serve a term of few months in remanded custody, then absolutely everyone would sit up to do the right thing, and our responsibilities would dawn on us to take to hearts and in actions.
But then, this is not an era of military but democracy like I said in the first paragraph of this blog. Democracy gives the right to people to do what they wish to do which doesn't end with who they want to vote alone but also extends to their willingness to vote or not. We can't be forced to if we don't wish to and that is why we would see that for any upcoming election either from the grassroot or at the state or federal level, campaigns and awareness goes round and more often, to ensure that people go out to cast their vote for who they feel is right to lead them.
The only solution or option is to keep sensitizing ourselves, spread the awareness anywhere we find ourselves, starting from our own homes as well while it extends to our communities.
Taking it as a crime and punishing citizens for not going out to vote can't be the right step under the umbrella of democracy than to fuel the fiery furnace of awareness and sensitization.
