One major thing I appreciate and found interesting, relatable and sensible about the National Youth Service Corps done by every Nigerian graduate who is not more than 30 years as of the date of graduation otherwise exempted is the 3rd part of the scheme which is CDS (Community Development Service).

It's one out of the four pillars of the one year compulsory service year that I found so insightful because no matter where you're posted to in serving for your 1 year of service, there is always a day in a week where you all come together, talk and brainstorm on how to offer community service to your assigned local government from the different groups of corp members.
This does not only benefit the community alone in the course of these young fellows service years but it also help build the spirit to give to the community with the little we have before getting to the outside world where we can offer more.

This is the likely feeling I had back then when marsdave@marsdave and I were discussing about how he initiated reaching out to schools for his CDS group for their CDS activity during his service year and for sure the plan went through which I know will have gotten many students to benefit from this kind hearted initiative.

So incorporating this acts in secondary schools or tertiary institutions before graduation or as a criteria to graduate is not a bad idea in any way or be counted as requesting too much from individuals who will be going into the society anytime soon as independent persons. How they treat fellow humans should be prioritized also and not always solely about mathematical formula and grammatical expressions.

Let other way of life be incorporated into the education system as the real world is not only about theoretical parts of the education that are been discussed in classes. So many intelligent heads are out there with no proper relationship to their fellow beings. At least if the guardians at their respective homes failed to teach them, then schools should be able to fill in the gaps but how much can they do these and achieve it if it is not actually practicalized.

Let there be a period like that of SIWES or IT (Industrial Training) in tertiary institutions be scheduled for Community services, just like times are scheduled for excursions in basic or secondary schools too. Let students have this field knowledge and feelings of how to give back to the community. Most times, you don't really feel attach to something until you have a close contact with it.

In conclusion of my words, enforcing or making it mandatory for students to exercise community service before graduating doesn't mean they are being forced to do good (even if that's still a good cause though) but it's to make it a part of students in the same way teachers are trying to make whatever that is been taught in class a part of these students to utilize in the outside world.
