Clout chasing has become so normal in this time of the world we found ourselves now and it seems like the world from 20years or 10years ago is now changed and switched to a new world where every single good deed has to be done in front of the camera.
Back in those days when people show kindness anonymously, not wanting their identities out in the public or even known to the person whom it is been done unto let alone the person bumping them with appreciation every now and then.
Even in the religious setting, for instance while in church and a donation request is raised, some individuals may choose to meet with the pastor privately and sort the money or almost all the money, leaving just a little or nothing for the rest of the congregation to contribute anymore without drawing any attention.
But now? Let even the whole church hear and know that they are the person who made that widow's daughter graduate from school. That's the kind of world we live in now where kindness is done to get more attention, engagements and even followers on social media with media team following around alongside their ring lights just to capture every hot moments that can draw attention from people.
Now, let's say I am desperately in need of a help which sometimes the desperate doesn't necessarily mean a bad or deteriorating situation and peradventure the one who is available and supposed to help me is someone who will be doing it to chase clout and not really about helping me per say. Will I still go ahead to receive the help knowing fully well the reason behind the help?
First and foremost, this is where the whole trick is and I know people can be like "hell no I can't" bla bla bla as we all are entitled to our opinions and principles but the clause is there glaring that I needed the help and at times help comes from ways we don't really expect it to be and since it's a help I need, it means I have no means of sorting it and I am in dire need of it to be sorted.
The motive of the helper behind him or her helping me out remains their problem to deal with as long as the motive is not based on having an affair, but chasing clout? Mehnn that's so common now and can be dealt with.
Practically looking at the situation of health cases on social media, where the person is desperately in need of money for their medical condition, business means of survival from poverty, funds to pay for tuition fee at deadlines, will they hesitate to receive the help because camera is been brought to their face and they lose their lives, opportunity to survival and tiny chance to writing their exams because they want to protect their principles? No.
This does not mean I am literally encouraging the act but it is what it is and it's no longer strange in the world we are now and once you are at the need of others help, then you are either getting it at their terms or you sort it yourself.
Think about these NGOs, if you've worked with them or gotten an aid from them then you would understand better. Will a needy person deny them helping out because they have to bring their media team to capture the moment of the help they're rendering to you? Officially, they need to do it to get more funders and also account for the present funders as evidence of them using the money for the original purpose. So that's just the way things are now in this tech world era.
Even the most vulnerable ones that are not supposed to be used to chase clouts are being used let alone people who only become vulnerable at a certain point of their lives and it's so sad to think about but in as much as fingers can never be equal, with some hands not even having fingers at all, clouts motive behind the help needed desperately is not important.
However, we can do better by stop doing the good deeds in front of the camera and make it remain behind because even as spoilt as the world is, some people still run theirs behind the ring light.
