Netflix recently released One Hundred Years of Solitude, and although I watched only the first chapter I can already say at once that it is a different series, that in its 8 chapters will deliver a quality product and surely a great adaptation. And I say surely because even though I've had the book since I was 17 years old, I've never been able to get past the first few pages; it's something I really struggle with and it pains me to admit that it has been able to me, however, there was a great time when I loved to read and that's why now I like to write so much. For the same reason it shows a little in the way I write, that I have read, I guess, and I would like to mention some books that were a before and after for me.
Unlike some posts I've done, I honestly don't want to make a top of the books that changed my life or anything, but rather mention them above, because more than listing the books I've read and qualifying them, I think I can globalize all that stage of my life (which was at least about 6 years) in one feeling, that of feeling good while reading. Also in seeing how readings can be so different depending on the author you are reading, and how you feel while reading. However, I found it amazing that no matter if it was good or bad, some books managed to make my mood change for better or worse, as if the author was playing with me.
The Silmarilion is possibly one of the most extensive and beautiful books I have read, because, for those who do not know, it is basically the bible of middle earth, the world of the lord of the rings. An odyssey that starts from Eden to the end of the world telling like a whole mythology. I find it amazing that all this came from the imagination of one person, which also reminds me a lot of Stephen King's and Lovecraft's books, who with their imagination created stories, characters and monsters that inspired me to write one or another short story in my adolescence. Stories like Rabia, The Long Walk, The Black Cat, Tell-Tale Heart and several others also made me realize that a story doesn't have to be ostentatious and complex to be a good story, but that sometimes less is more.
But if I have to mention a book that has really marked me, I have to admit that it is flowers in the attic. Never had something made me feel so many things as flowers in the attic did, a book that is a classic but contains one of the strongest and hardest stories to read in contemporary literature. Along with this book, but to a lesser extent, I could say that Frankenstein marked me as well, and that it was the book that made me realize how writing can be so timeless, how writing can never be erased.
