Deliverance is a powerful experience, but if it is not rooted in the knowledge of God's Word, it often becomes temporary. As 1 Peter 2:2 tells us:
“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.”
Without this growth, the delivered person remains spiritually vulnerable. Demons that once left can return if the person is not grounded in the Word, and worse still, they can bring more wicked spirits along (Matthew 12:43–45).
Some demonic spirits—such as a quarrelsome or angry spirit—may not leave easily. They’ve been present for so long that they’ve established a “mission post” in the individual’s soul. Even if they are forced out by the heat of the Word, their exit can be temporary unless the deliverance is thorough and the person is immediately filled with truth, discipline, and the Holy Spirit.
Sometimes, when a demon leaves a person, it goes out and lingers nearby, waiting to re-enter if it finds another “empty vessel.” That’s why it’s critical to be careful during deliverance services—both as a participant and as a bystander. The enemy seeks vulnerable people to inhabit, especially those not spiritually covered or grounded.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” – 1 Peter 5:8
The Sword of the Spirit — Our Weapon of Sustenance
The Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17), is what keeps us free from demonic oppression, possession, depression, rejection, and frustration. These attacks often begin in the mind—the battlefield of thoughts—where both positive and negative voices compete for control.
The only way to win that battle is to renew your mind daily through the Word. Just as water cleanses the physical body, the Word cleanses the soul.
“Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.” – 2 Corinthians 4:16
This renewal is not just mental—it is spiritual deliverance in process, happening quietly and consistently as you feed on the Word of God.
The Real Battlefield and Your True Identity
Understand this: the battle is not in your flesh alone, and it’s not even your emotions—it is deeply spiritual. Your real self is your human spirit, the new creation in Christ.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
The outward man—your body—may weaken with time, but your inner man—your born-again spirit—must grow stronger every day through the Word. This is the secret to lasting deliverance. This is how we live as more than conquerors.
