Easy access is what exemplifies this overlook along the North Cascades loop. Surrounded by soaring peaks with glaciers in the Ross Lake National Recreation Area, Diablo Lake Overlook is a must-stop attraction along Highway 20. It's right off the street and has ample parking, restrooms, and a covered picnic shelter. Interpretive signs filled with geological and historical tidbits are placed throughout, and the views are magnificent.
Diablo Lake's turquoise waters are the product of glacier-ground rock silt, which can be carried down from these mountains by flows. This sediments reacts with light to give the lake its bluish-green hue. There is no better location than Diablo Lake Overlook to photos of this scene.
