I Went To The Serpent Lake

HYDE PARK AND THE SERPENTINE ON A SUNNY DAY

I went to the Serpentine during this past weekend. If you're not familiar with what that is, it's the long serpent-like lake in Hyde Park. It's shape is where it got its name from.

I arrived relatively early so it wasn't so packed. Walking up from Knightsbridge through the relatively newly erected towers of glass and metal, across the street, to the park itself. Ancient trees form a very nice canopy over that part of the park - between the street and the horse riding track, and between the track and the lake. It's respite for those seeking it from the blazing sunshine. There were people dotted around sitting or sleeping on the grass.

The lake itself was calm and clear, reflecting the clear blue colour of the sky. It was such a pleasant view. The birds seemed to be enjoying the weather too, with some of them floating around on the lake, while others lined the side. There were people on paddle and cycle boats on the lake too. Everything and everyone looking chilled.

One difference I noticed from the last time I was here is the population increase of the Egyptian geese. This is not just at Hyde Park, I've noticed it at the parks in my neighbourhood too. They seem to be thriving against the odds. Good for them.

It was a beautiful day out with temperatures reaching the low thirties on the Centigrade scale. Very comfortable for me but perhaps not for others. Most people I saw appeared to be loving the weather though. Mind you, Hyde Park is a large open space with a lot of breeze so it was probably one of the most pleasant places to be in London on the day.
