Sex crime is really a grevous one. The increase in the rate of sex crime is getting outrageous day by day. Most times I wonder what kind of demon must have possessed an individual to have assaulted someone sexually. The most disheartening part is the trending news of siblings assaulting each other sexually. The truth is that the emotional and mental damage it causes to an individual who is sexually assaulted is always a lasting one and most time it's unlikely they get over it with time.

Recently, I heard a story of a young girl who was sexually molested by her uncle. The act started when she was eight years old. She lived with her uncle because her parents were not financially bouyant as at then. The girl was a lively and brilliant child but after few months of living with her uncle, things changed. She became cold and hardly interact with people. Nobody knew what she was going through. They only noticed change of attitude , but they could not identify what was wrong. Unknown to them that her uncle was sexually molesting her and has threatened the young girl never to tell anyone or else he will kill her. The fear of being killed gripped her that she could not inform anyone.

After few years, They later discovered that it was her uncle that has been molesting her sexually. The worst part is that a lot of damage has been done before they discovered. She was affected physically, mentally and emotionally due to the sexual molestation she experienced as a young girl.

The uncle was jailed for years. But to be sincere, Do you think that's the best punishment for a rapist? Can that be compared to the emotional damage he had done to that young girl? A lot of people are actually dying in silence, especially the minors. I believe a more severe punishment should be assigned to anyone found guilty of sexual crimes.

A month ago, I was interacting with my friend and we are discussing about the increase in crime rate within our society and a friend suggested that rapist should be castrated instead of being imprisoned. A lot of us support her point because I believe it's as a result of uncontrolled sexual urge and indiscipline that led them to such act. So if they are castrated that will solve the problem of committing another sexual crime.

Therefore, Law enforcement agencies should ensure that effective punishment are assigned to those found guilty of sexual crime.
Even though rapist found in such act are being punished and imprisoned. The truth is that, can we truly guarantee if they've changed after being released? Or should they be prevented from coming close to minors or their own children.

In my own opinion, I believe preventing them from getting close to minors or their own children is not the best solution. I believe measures should be set in place even when released from prison. Some of the measures include : Taking them to rehabilitation centers where they can be rehabilitated and also they should be monitored closely and should not be left alone with children. I believe this measures will help in curbing them from committing another sex crime.
