If I was one of those "inspire to aspire to require to acquire" motivational coaches, I would have pumped up her ego to apply knowing fully well she stood no chance. It probably would have ended in one of those rejection emails. Maybe not, who knows.
Now, there was a time I applied for anything and everything. Even for programs I had no business applying for, and had no experience or expertise. I would search for opportunities late into the night, and start early in the day.
Truth be told, writing essays and filling long forms can be mentally exhausting. That's why it can be crushing when the rejections come.
However, one thing happened in the process, while the many rejections came, some few acceptance emails came, and they made all the difference.
It's indeed been a long and interesting journey. Now, I can't remember when last I applied for anything. Sometimes, I watch the days roll by till the deadline passes. I just seem not to be at that mental state or phase to put in time for something that I'm no fit for, or that's not taking me anywhere close in the directions of my dreams.
When I put in time, I make sure it's worth the time of my evaluators as well as my time also. Life's too short chasing after shadows.
My point is, there comes a time when less is more. It's not about how many programs you apply for, but the importance and relevance of the impact it will have in your life.
So, apply if you have to, refine your writing skills, stay true to your passion and purpose, and with time, opportunities that are tailor made for you will come. They may be fewer, but trust me, they'll make up for all the rejections you might have ever faced.
Keep walking
Keep working
Keep dreaming
Keep applying 馃槉
Keep advancing
And don't you dare ever give up on you!
