It's a personal reassessment of being on Hive for years. I started around January 2018 from the old blockchain without any idea what a blockchain or crypto space was like. The concept of shitposting for some cash was cool as I did intend to start a blog somewhere at some point and Hive became a catalyst to get myself out there (here).
What happened?
I started with Art post then lost my art motivation so I diversified with topics I liked and then got lost in the identity of the blog. I still learned more about the blockchain and the culture which was nice. Met new people here and there, enjoyed the weekly drama on the blockchain.
Things Hive got right.
It managed to make a community. Not the community that would take us to the moon but still a community. It tried many this and made the most out of decentralized governance. It turns out if there was no centralized governance and relying on consensus, most nice things never get done. And if it's centralized, most nice things don't get done cause the ones making the decision don't necessarily make good decisions (for others).
Things disappointed you.
A lot. People, blockchain, and community. But I learned to take things for what it is and just moved on.
What keeps you here.
People and just scrapes of old familiarity. I use to be active, shared my thoughts here, and it has become part of my story running almost a decade now. Old habits just die hard. I can't even say I can abandon it fully even without any monetary rewards involved. It's now a habit to be here once in a while and I know cause I haven't looked at my wallet counting numbers.
What would make you leave.
When the blockchain no longer has a frontend normal people can access and I no longer see anyone else that gave me a sense of familiarity to the place. I'm not tech savvy enough to find ways to access the blockchain nor do I think whatever my account is worth now is worth the headache.
“If I had to start again today, would I still join?”
I would. I don't think it's never a bad time to start the blockchain life anywhere and it's easy mode to get a grasp of things on Hive while exploring the space for other crypto communities. I'm just disillusioned about how things have gone for the past years but not pessimist enough to dismiss Hive.
