The weekend has arrived and with it, the opportunity to participate in the #weekend-engagement themes, although the theme of two truths and a lie caught my attention, there was one that did it more. I could not miss the opportunity to talk about one of the things I hate the most in this life: unpunctuality. That is why I chose to develop the phrase "I hate it when... people are unpunctual".
One of the things I dislike most about people is when they are late for everything, I feel it is a lack of respect for my time and the time of others involved, it is as if they have no consideration for anyone but themselves or worse, disinterest in the activity they committed to attend.
As a mother of a toddler, I understand that sometimes unforeseen events can happen that make us late, but we do not live in the caveman times. Nowadays, practically everyone has a smartphone at hand, with which we can let others know that we have had an unforeseen event and that we will be a few minutes late. I think it is the least that can be done in those cases, besides that it can be understandable, since we cannot have control over all the things that happen around us.
The problem comes when the absences are constant and the person gets used to always being late, for me there is no excuse for such discourteous behavior. I have had to walk away from several people because of their constant unpunctuality, it is something that I simply got tired of putting up with. Time is too precious to waste on someone who clearly has no regard for mine.
One of those people was a great friend and, unfortunately, my boss at the corporate events company where I worked for a while. You can imagine how many times I had to stick up for her and apologize to clients for her unpunctuality. There were times when she was up to an hour late for meetings and even events, it was really exhausting to have to make excuses and lie to justify her irresponsibility.
I think that getting organized to be on time for appointments is not so difficult, you just have to be willing to do it, as I said before, I understand that sometimes there are unforeseen events, but there is no excuse to make unpunctuality a common behavior.
I don't know if it's that they don't realize how disrespectful they are with other people's time, or it's simply that they don't care, what I do know is that it's a behavior that I have decided not to tolerate anymore, so when I realize that someone is repeatedly unpunctual, I simply walk away and if that's not a possibility, I just ignore them and go ahead with my plans without taking them into account.
Maybe that's a bit blunt on my part, but the reality is that no one has a life to spare to waste time with people like that.
