And showing you some Gran Turismo running on it (a demo, to be specific), becuase you people love Gran Turismo, don't you?
...well, at least I have started to grow a liking to it.
Anyways, the screenshot comes from AetherSX2 running on my Redmi Note 10S, and let me tell you, even if this one might not be running fullspeed due to how demanding it is, it is still mighty impressive to see a PS2 game functional AT ALL on my phone.
That would be even more impressive with the few other games I've tried that run far better, like Bloody Roar 3 and Street Fighter EX3!
While performance depends on the stage, overall it runs pretty well, though blood effects seem to be missing.
On the other hand, while Tekken Tag doesn't run at fullspeed in most stages, it is incredible to see it running at more than 30fps after years of being one of the most demanding games to run on a PC of all things.
If anything, I tested this as a curiosity considering how I don't have an Android gamepad to make the best out of this option, and that most of the games I would want to play from PS2 on the go are likely not going to run at fullspeed, could simply play on my PC, or have alternatives like similar games or ports on the PSP and such. But it is surreal that there's an emulator that can handle PS2 games as good as this, since I can definitely imagine an even more powerful phone having a field day with these games at fullspeed.
It definitely finished in a pretty respectable state and being able to handle a lot, which means that at least any grateful people will be able to enjoy this even if it doesn't keep getting developed...because it is no longer being in developed. Some ungrateful people decided to issue death threats and harassing the developer because it wasn't perfect and had issues, to the point that the developer decided to drop the project and disappear.
I don't know what else to tell you, it is a sour note, but that's how it all literally ended with. It is good that the project was left as good as it is...but you never know how better it could have been in the future had it not been for the most rotten apples in the basket ruining everything.
Please let that be a message that, if anything, most emulator developers doing what they do is incredible, and that it is already something if an emulator can get into a proof-of-concept functional state, let alone running games. There's absolutely no need to make these people's lives miserable just because they can't achieve the perfection someone demands from their high horse, and instead respect them for what their emulators have allowed us to do today.
