Over three decades after its initial release, Simpsons Hit and Run is now playable on the go without a laptop. Before we get too far into this, this project is similar to the recompile projects for console games, you will need the original Hit and Run game to source copyrighted and trademarked files. Particularly the PC version, have that and follow some simple instructions and you are off playing Simpsons Hit and Run on your Android device.
This project has been in the works for a while but recently hit version 1.0.3, the most stable, playable version yet. This is great news for fans of Simpsons Hit and Run, me being one. I remember the first time I played this game on the original Xbox; I loved it. This was odd to me since I was not a fan of Grand Theft Auto when it went to 3D.
The embedded video below by YouTube creator, VP REBORN shows off Simpsons Hit and Run running on Android. It looks great, as it should be since it is not a port and is using official media.
While the game allows a lot of things to happen at once, the controls are simple. The buttons are context sensitive – no need to worry about honking a horn if you are not in a car for instance.
This means touch controls, while still annoying, will be decently acceptable. Obviously, if you have a controller your experience will be much better.
Head over to Github to grab the files and follow the instructions. Please remember, you will need an original copy of the PC game to grab assets from. Here is an affiliate link for eBay to help if you need a copy.
