Postage Stamps: Birds and Life Aquatic

Although I do not consider myself a philatelist, since my adolescence I always liked to collect and sort some postal stamps. Until the 80s, I could buy them with some ease in certain places in Havana, Cuba.
Nowadays that dream is no longer possible, and many philately enthusiasts can enjoy what they were able to keep.

Nowadays, many opt for electronic stamps, and when some paper stamps appear, they are to be attached to certain legal documents.

In them, the history of the countries of the world is treasured in graphic form, where illustrious figures, monuments, stages of technological development, means of transport, flora, fauna, ecosystems, etc. can appear.

Everything that man created, has tried to be reflected in this fantastic miniature world that are the stamps; and that is the proposal of @mipiano for February. A month that embraces a special date, the Valentine's Day.

Today I will give my contribution, and I want to share with you my collection of stamps related to the animal world, specifically to birds and representatives of aquatic life.

Birds:

As you can see, these postage stamps were manufactured in the former Soviet Union, between the 1960s and 1975s. They are vintage objects that for their age are quite well preserved.

They show the most representative birds of the country, among them several types of birds of prey, flamingos, seagulls, ducks, ibis, those protagonists of children's tales and fantastic traditions, for being the carriers of newborns to the chosen families.

Life Aquatic:

Here we have species that live both in the marine environment and in freshwater reservoirs, such as the distinguished sturgeon fish, a great living fossil, from which its roe, known as Caviar, is extracted. A gourmet delicacy that is very expensive, depending on the species and the place where this fish is caught, as is the case of Beluga sturgeon.

In salt water we have among the best known the dolphin and whale. Cetaceans, aquatic mammals that arouse a general interest among people.

From the issue in 1840 of the Penny Black, the first postage stamp issued in the UK and circulated around the world, to the present day, many carry in their memory the sweetest memories. From great love stories to the most bitter news.

In this era of digital communication where the binary bases of “0” and “1” are constant, the disuse of our hands to write with pen or pencil on paper, makes us lose little by little the ability for the strokes.

It fills me with satisfaction to keep at home, those envelopes aged by time, witnesses of moments of exchange of letters with my parents, friendships, and shared loves; where thanks to a postage stamp and its value, letters on paper could sail the seas of the world.
