Figurines Of Fortune
"It's a thing of a surprise seeing myself so rich with these figurines I brought home".
Emeka has been a great farmer who lived happily with his family except for the fact that his children lack formal education just because of his poor farm produce. After several years of farming, as he wanted to take after his father's legacy, he decided to quit and started petty trading. "I don't know if I would be able to make it here as it would be my first time trying this?" He asked himself.
His wife Martha told him to go back to farming, but he saw her words smelling and annoying. "How can you tell me to go back to farming after trying for years without profit?" He asked his wife Martha. "Ok, what about doing the two at the same time?" Martha asked calmly just for her husband to take her words as she has seen that farming can bring them a fortune in the future even though they were incurring losses
*I think you are right dear", Emeka said. He has some pieces of farmland which he later planted with some cassava stems. He went to the second farm and had the idea of planting yams in it. Emeka told his children to accompany him to the farm which Gab, his elder son, refused. The rest went alongside their father and mother. They started tilling the ground in segments, while Emeka and Nngozi, his only daughter, were busy cutting the yams into sizes of how they would be planted.
Emeka's wife, Martha went to the stream to fetch some water to be used for cooking as everyone must eat after working.
Emeka began the planting of the yams. As he dipped his cutlass into the earth, it was as if there were some sort of obstructions. He dug further and found two sets of figurines. They looked so beautiful. They were in the shape of humans but he does not know their values. So, he took them out and washed them so neatly. Emeka told his wife to keep those items for him until they got home, which she did.
As they got home, they met Gab sleeping hopelessly. Emeka said, "Don't expect any food from this house, you must stay hungry except if you go out to join your friends or beg for food".
As Emeka's wife took the item down, Gab was observing and immediately his eyes opened. He did not care to ask where those items were from. He knew the value of the items and waited for his father to leave the room before performing his wonder. He went to where those items were kept when his father had gone out and took one of the items. He took it to the bracelet shop and discovered that it was pure gold. "Where did my dad get these items from?" He asked himself silently. Without wasting time, he sold it for a huge amount of money.
He was smiling home so nicely just like someone who had won a jackpot. When he got home, he was so surprised to have seen the same item he had sold in the same place he took it from along with the second one. He checked his pocket and found no money. "Am I dreaming?" he asked himself in surprise. He continues, "How come this is here, and how come the money I had collected disappeared from my pocket? This is impossible".
He rushed to the bracelet shop. Please, never in your life must you bring this item close to my shop, I could not find the item but saw the money I gave to you on the spot where I dropped the figurine. Or did you steal it from me by placing the money back? the man said. "I could not see the money in my pocket and again saw the figurine on the spot I took it from. I was left surprised", Gab said. "Please, get away from my shop", as the man shamelessly sent Gab out of his shop.
He went straight to meet up with his mum and asked "Mum! Where did you people get these from? I think it's evil". His mum was surprised to have heard that from his son. "Why did you say that? Did you observe something?" His mum asked. "No", he responded.
Emeka, who was naive about how those items were valued, took one of the figurines to the bracelet shop. As they priced it, he was left surprised, but the man in the shop said he would not buy it as someone had brought this to his shop and he saw what his eyes could not explain. "Please ask your children when you get home", the man ordered. When he got home, he encountered a serious argument with his eldest son, Gab. "Why did you take the item to the bracelet shop to sell?" He asked. "I'm sorry Dad", Gab apologized for what he had done.
Emeka was on his way to sell one of the items in another shop when he saw a woman suffering from cancer. He drew close to her and immediately, she got cured and every sore in her body was closed. Emeka did not believe what had happened. He discovered that anybody he passed by, got healed of whatever they were suffering from. After observing, he took the figurine back home. People who saw what had happened gathered their sick family members and went straight to Emeka's house.
Emeka got home and saw his compound filled up with sick people, some were half dead while some were in wheelchairs. "What the hell is happening here!", he asked. His children as well as his wife were left with no words. "Honey, what's happening?" His wife asked. "I wanted to ask you the same question, but after much thought, I got the answer. It's the figurines we brought home", he said. "Do you mean that they can heal the sick? If so, we are in money" Her wife said while in a happy and rejoicing mood.
Emeka started using the figurine to touch each sick person while his wife was using the second one to do the same. As they did that the sick people got cured. Those in wheelchairs rose and walked home carrying their wheelchairs on their heads. They were rewarded handsomely. Each family who came for the healing gave Emeka and his wife money and also sent their children to a formal school. Emeka became rich as they now focus on healing the sick people.
