It has long served to reflect societal realities—dating back ages—and is regarded as a vital tool for expression. You may have noticed in newspapers that when people cannot directly satirize a political party or a specific individual, they turn to art; satire is easily conveyed through art, yet it remains beyond reproach because, ultimately, it is merely an artistic creation. Artists use their work to highlight various societal issues—a practice that has persisted since ancient times. In the past, when literacy rates were low and written text was inaccessible to many, art provided a universal language that anyone could easily view and understand; this is precisely why art holds such great significance.

While art is often used for constructive purposes and to drive social change, some artists create controversial images that may not appeal to the general public or might even offend a large segment of society. This raises the question of whether such art—particularly when displayed in public spaces—should be removed. There are various perspectives on this matter; sometimes, people dislike certain art simply because they feel it is inappropriate. However, artists often use provocative imagery to highlight critical social issues—especially when the media fails to address them or when such issues remain suppressed—thereby bringing them to public attention. By making their art somewhat controversial, artists spark conversations and generate debate; this ensures the issue gains visibility, as people tend to ignore conventional art but are more likely to discuss and engage with controversial works, allowing the message to reach a wider audience.

Then there is another aspect: some people in society create objectionable images that lack any underlying logic or substantive issue; they simply produce something arbitrary. They believe that doing so will earn them a reputation—thinking that once people start wondering why such things are being created and by whom, they will seek out the artist, thereby granting them publicity, even if it is not the kind of direct recognition they might otherwise receive.

While everyone has the right to freedom of expression, this does not mean one can simply present anything to society; there must be boundaries, as every action has limits, and crossing them warrants appropriate action. When such matters arise in public spaces, strict regulations are essential; an objectionable painting displayed in public is seen by people of all ages—children and the elderly alike—and viewing it could have a negative impact on their minds. Both the artist and the administration bear responsibility here; before displaying a painting in a public space, it is crucial to determine whether it is appropriate for society. Meetings could be held to gather diverse opinions on the matter, helping to decide whether the display is suitable or if modifications are needed.

It is crucial to understand the distinction between content that is merely "objectionable" and content that is "violent." Something deemed objectionable is typically considered unsuitable for a specific group—a group that might oppose it because they do not wish for others to see it. However, violent imagery falls into a completely different category; it should be avoided entirely because it promotes violence and can have a detrimental impact on society, particularly on the younger generation. Therefore, before any painting is displayed in a public space, it is essential to hold a meeting involving the artist, the administration, and representatives from various communities; only then can a decision be reached regarding whether the painting is appropriate for public display.
