My answer is yes. As long as the drawing is meant for entertainment, self-expression, or to make people think, I believe it is acceptable. Art has always been a powerful way for people to express emotions, share ideas, and inspire meaningful conversations. In such cases, artists should be free to create without unnecessary interference.
However, freedom of expression does not mean freedom from consequences. There is one thing many people still need to understand: while the law may protect freedom of speech to a certain extent, it does not guarantee freedom from the consequences of that speech. That is why we must be careful with whatever we say, paint, write, or any other way we choose to communicate our thoughts and feelings.
Recently, a popular TikTok creator was arrested after allegedly making threats against the president’s son on TikTok. The incident surprised many people and sparked another debate about the limits of free speech. It reminds us that while people have the right to express themselves, that right has legal boundaries, especially when speech becomes threatening or harmful.
The same principle applies to murals and paintings. Freedom of expression does not give us the right to promote war, tribalism, hatred, violence, or anything else that could put others at risk. If a mural or painting is used to spread hate, intimidate people, or incite violence, the artist may face legal consequences depending on the laws of the country and the impact of the artwork.
Murals and paintings can beautify communities, preserve history, and encourage healthy discussions. No one is saying they should not exist. The important thing is to use art responsibly and avoid creating works that deliberately promote harm or violence.
Personally, there are paintings I might find offensive or emotionally disturbing. Simply seeing them could trigger a strong reaction in me. That does not mean every offensive artwork should be banned, but it does remind us that artists should think carefully about the message they are sending and the effect it may have on others.
For example, if someone deliberately creates a drawing of the president solely to ridicule, defame, or incite violence against him, that person could face legal consequences depending on the country’s laws. This is why freedom of expression is not absolute. Every society places certain limits on speech and expression to protect public order, the rights of others, and national security.
Giving people unlimited freedom without any accountability could easily lead to chaos because some individuals will always abuse that freedom. Laws and regulations help keep society organized and protect people’s rights. Without them, the world would become increasingly unstable, where power rather than justice determines what is right.
In my opinion, people should be free to draw, paint, and express themselves creatively, but they should also be responsible for the impact of their actions. Freedom of expression is one of the foundations of a healthy society, but like every other freedom, it comes with responsibilities.
