Autocad 3D-Modelling: Rhombic triacontahedron

triacontahedron

Previous Designs: 3D Modelling

Hello Hivers!

Today's featured 3D model design is the Rhombic triacontahedron or sometimes called as the triacontahedron.

Rhombic triacontahedron is a convex polyhedron with 30 rhombic faces. It has 60 edges and 32 vertices of two types. It is a Catalan solid.Source

Process:

Create two perpendicularly intersecting lines, one with the measurement of 1 unit and the other with golden ratio measurement or approximately 1.618 units.

Connect the ends of those lines to create a rhombus shape, this is what we call the golden rhombus. Then apply join tool to create a planar rhombus

Apply mirror tool to the rhombus and use the 1 side of the reference rhombus to place the other one.

Rotate the 2nd rhombus with respect to the side of the main rhombus at given dihedral angle of 144 degress.

Apply array to put another rhombus on the opposite side or you can repeat the steps above using mirror.
Screenshot 101.png

Copy another rhombus and apply 3D Align tool to place it properly to the main figure.

Until you get this exact figure. Don't forget to apply region to those faces so that you can apply some colors later on on every rhombus plane.

Next is to copy the figure above and apply 3DALIGN tool to put them together.
Screenshot 107.png

You'll arrive the exact figure as shown below. The you can apply array to put another figure on the opposite side. Or copy those figure again and place it properly to the main subject using alignment.

There you have it, your rhombic triacontahedron. Apply your desired colors.
