Utkata Konasana - Goddess Pose

I think this is going to be a running series but honestly don't hold me to it. If it is well received I'll do a pose a week and share if with you all! With that being said lets start with my first pose!

Utkata Konasana ((oot-KAH-tuh cone-AHS-uh-nuh)) : Goddess Pose ; also referred to as the Fierce Angle Pose

Benefits

Strengthens and tones the calves, quadriceps, inner thighs and core, shoulders, arms and upper back. Along with that, this pose stretches the hips, groins and chest. On the subtle level this pose helps to integrate the energy centers of the lower and upper body. Lastly this pose is great for pregnant women as it prepares the body for childbirth by creating space in the pelvis.

Contradictions

This pose is considered to be a restorative pose, however if you have any chronic or recent hip, leg shoulder injuries to proceed with caution.

Sanskrit:

  • Utkata: powerful or fierce
  • Kona: angle
  • Asana: pose

Currently this is probably my favorite pose to do, it's a relatively new pose that I've incorporated into my practice. It does invoke a strong inner power and confidence that I've never experienced before with an asana. I highly recommend if you practice to try it out! You won't be sorry.
