Acting the failure of prohibition

Bernie Sanders was the first US presidential candidate to make cannabis legalization a milestone in his campaign in 2015. The current senator said he would appoint an attorney general, a director of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and a secretary for health and social services, "who would work to end the drug war and legalize cannabis quickly".

"It is time to admit that the criminalization of cannabis has been a disaster, especially for communities of color, and to empower the most affected people to move forward in life," the plan says. "Our job now is to legalize cannabis, to cancel past convictions, and to ensure that the revenues from legal cannabis are reinvested in the communities most affected by the war on drugs.''
