Getaway - Central Washington!

We live in Washington State for a few years and still haven't really been to central Washington, maybe once or twice on the way to the famous (and overrated) German town - Leavenworth, or to the winery county - Walla Walla (they love it so much that they name it twice), but haven't specifically visited as a destination. In a cold but sunny February weekend, we are on our way!

After found out part of the Ellensburg River Park was closed, and river was flooded, we went straight to lunch. This cute and old-fashioned deli place was called Daily Bread. Turkey panini was good, but the roasted jalapeno soup was great - super cheesy with a hint of spice!

Originally, I wanted to go to Grand Coulee Dam, and then found out it was quite a bit drive. But luckily, we spotted another cool dam around the area - Wanapum..

A shot trail took us close to the dam on top of Columbia River. You hear nothing but the water, you do nothing but stand in the sun. It's such a precious moment (compared to listening to the bustle and hustle in the city of Seattle. :)

I still can't believe we got seats in Swiftwater Cellar, because we almost couldn't find a parking spot! So lesson learned, make the reservation.

Pizza was awesome, and it was only $15, really? In a winery? Crab cake on the other hand was quite mediocre, $29 for two big but floury and over-spicy balls. Plating was interesting, although I didn't get how crab cake went together with tomato and apple?! The far right is deer chili - too thick. Pass.

Mr. Travels loved the entree - rack of lamb, on a bed of white been stew with panchetta and shredded brussel sprout.

Our trip was full of food - if you are around Kennewick, make sure to check out Graze - yummy sandwich and salad, and Spudnut - donuts and muffins made with potato flour!!

A stroll by Columbia River was lovely.

Especially when you run into a friend. Hey buddy!

The highlight of the trip was probably the sunset moment, in a random leg of the highway around Yakima. We pulled over just to walk to a spot with not many trees, so we can enjoy that short 5 minutes of magic color.

Mr. Travels' favorite was certainly this cider place, which we stopped by last time on the way to Walla Walla. A tasting flight and two BIG growlers to go please!

On the way back, we stopped by Tiger Mountain for a short walk on the trail. Can't go back in the spring to explore more!
