Indonesian dish Macaroni


My little Indo grandmother made the most delicious macaroni of everyone.
Not the standard, "macaroni and cheese". But a very special one .......
It is a simple and easy recipe and is easy to prepare.
Every Dutch-Indonesian family has given their own touch to this dish, but the basis is always simple and tasty.

What do you need:

  • 250 grams of macaroni
  • 5 eggs
  • 375 ml of milk
  • 250 grams of ham cubes
  • 200 grams of grated cheese
  • 1 Bouillon cube
  • Butter
  • Bread-crumbs
  • Nutmeg
  • Pepper and salt

How to prepare:

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
Boil the macaroni in water with a bouillon cube at "al dente". Drain Macaroni into a colander and rinse under running cold water. Let the macaroni drain well.

Meanwhile

Beat the eggs with the milk, nutmeg, pepper, and salt.
Melt approximately 50 gr. butter in a little dish in the oven.
Mix the macaroni with the ham, grated cheese and the melted butter in a bowl.
Grease a large oven dish with butter. Spoon the macaroni and the mixture into the baking dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs and bake the macaroni dish in the oven for 45 minutes.

Nice with a sambal sauce and a fresh green salad

Tip: Check with a skewer that the mixture has solidified well.
If the mixture does not stick to the skewer anymore, the macaroni dish is done.
