Vegan Chocolate Date Balls

I have done a bit of an update on a recipe I posted a short time ago sticky vegan date balls.

Thought I would add some chocolate to the mix.

I used Hershey's cocoa (100% cacao) which is naturally unsweetened.

Cocoa powder is made by separating the cocoa solids from the fat-rich cocoa liquor. It is a low calorie food, 2 tablespoons only has about 25 calories, but it offers an intense taste in drinks and baking. This 2 tbs provides you with 3.6 g of fiber, and 8 percent of the daily value of iron and 14 percent of the daily value of magnesium.

Cocoa may also have antidepressant effects as it contains a substance phenethylamine, which is a neurotransmitter found in the brain that acts as a mood elevator and natural antidepressant. The antioxidants that it contains may help to fight cancer, heart disease and aging. It may lower LDL cholesterol, reduce the risk of blood clots, increase blood flow to the arteries, lower high blood pressure, boost cognitive performance and provide essential minerals such as calcium and potassium.

Looks like it's a good idea to add it to your diet.

Cocoa used in the recipe.

Roasted raw almonds.

Toasted raw unsweetened coconut.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups of raw almonds
  • 1/2 cup of raw unsweetened coconut
  • 12 dates
  • 4 tbs of cocoa
  1. Toast the almonds in the oven on 350 degree farenheit for about 10 minutes.
  2. Toast the coconut in the oven at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes.
  3. Combine all the ingredients in a food processor until well chopped and combined. The mixture should become quite sticky.
  4. Roll the mixture into balls using a 1 tbs measure.
  5. Keep refrigerated.

Enjoy !!!
