Ramadan
Today is the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan, and since we are working here in Saudi Arabia, we are also bound to observe their tradition.
Showing our respect
I don't mean that even if we are not Muslims we need to do fasting from sunrise to sunset also but we can refrain from eating in front of them just to show our respect. We don't even drink water while we're in front of our Muslims colleagues.
Eating in public is prohibited
And besides, it is really prohibited to eat in public during the day. In fact, there is no single restaurant that is open in the morning while Muslims are fasting. Restaurants are open usually in the evening when Muslims are about to break their dawn to duck fasting.
Free food
And since today is the first day of Ramadan, I had this food free from the mosque where Muslims gathers to have their first meal after fasting the whole day.
Are you wondering why we're there too when we are not Muslims?
Actually they welcome non-Muslims to eat with them, they seems to be happy when Christians join them in the banquet.
