Fraueninsel, Chiemsee (Bavaria, Germany)

Frauen Insel (Ladies´Island) is the 2nd largest island after Herren Insel in Chiemsee. There is a ferry boat that brings the toursits every half hour from the mainland. The island has a Monastery that organizes its various events. In Summer, the ferry boat is packed with day tourists who want to see the beauty of the island and the oldest linden tree at the Lindenplatz.

Linden Tree - The 1200 Year-Old Tree

There are about seven linden trees in the island and the two most famous ones are located in Lindenplatz. The very huge one is about 1200 years-old which has always been connected to Earl Tassilo III who founded the Monastery for the nuns around the year 760. The tree is being protected by a huge fence surrounding it, a small chapel is also inside its perimeters.

This one tree below that I embraced is not as old as the one in the Lindenplatz. Perhaps just around 500 years old. They are available for tourists to touch and hold the amazing surface of the body that it is really very old...look at those structures!
