Luang Prabang City Cruise

Summary

Luang Prabang is beautiful and has many attractions around the city. We had two days of city cruise and two other days where we went to two waterfalls. The city boasts of amazing temples, traditional food and French cuisine. We didn't know but it used to be a French colony.

The Experience

Laos temples are vertically stacked at the ceiling which is opposite to the Thai ones which are horizontally stacked.

The first thing that came into our mind was how different the temples were as compared to Thailand. The decorations and architecture all had slight variations and yet at it's core they were similar. There were still stupa in every temple and a hall. The Buddha statues were also quite different. I had the feeling they were less realistic but more exaggerated.

We went up the Mount Phou Si, which had a famous temple and lots of Buddha statues on it.

For the first time, I discovered that I love cats. I spent more than an hour playing with three little cats and their mother at the Way Chom So temple on Mount Phou Si.

Of course we met some more monks. Look how a kid monk was reciting the Dhamma to a travelling monk.

Two days later, we went to the Royal Palace where there was a museum with a few exquisite items of interests. The artefacts were mostly presents of other nations to the old king of Laos. Unfortunately, the most interesting bits were not allowed to be taken as a photo. The famous Buddha figure that is supposed to be of full gold located inside the temple hall of the palace can only be seen when you are there. Although, many say that it's just a replica and the real one is hidden in Vientiane.
